Rated among the top Linux distros, the all new Debian GNU/Linux 8.7 is the latest and most advanced build of the Debian Jessie series, bringing many patches and fixes to the old version 8.6 which was launched in mid-September last year. The new version also brings dozens of updated versions of the included components and applications. “Security advisories were already published separately and are referenced where available,” said the Debian Project. The Debian Project highlighted that this update does not constitute a new version of Debian 8. “There is no need to throw away old Jessie CDs or DVDs, but only to update via an up-to-date Debian mirror after an installation, to cause any out-of-date packages to be updated.” Those who frequently install updates from security.debian.org won’t have to update many packages and most updates from security.debian.org are included in this update. If you are new to Debian Project and want to deploy the all new Debian GNU/Linux 8.7 on your PC/laptop, you will have to wait a little longer as at the moment of writing this article, installation ISOs are still to be published. We’ll write a separate article when the Debian Project announce that. For those who are already running the Debian GNU/Linux on their PC/Laptops, the new version has 87 miscellaneous bug fixes and 86 security updates for various of the pre-installed components. That’s a total of 173 updated packages combined, which means that the new installation mediums are more stable, reliable, and secure.
